NC Fusion in the Pros: Weekly Recap August 13th

This week saw 14 former NC Fusion players across MLS and USL Championship in action for their clubs. Most notably were the two matchups where former NC Fusion players went head to head and a former Fusion player scored a key goal for his side as they push for the playoffs and he continued his stellar season at center back. Here’s how some of our former academy and U-23 players playing professionally fared this week.

MLS

Clint Irwin (Colorado Rapids): 90 minutes vs San Jose Earthquakes. Irwin and the Rapids got a decisive 2-1 win vs fellow former Fusion player Shea Salinas and the Earthquakes on Saturday night. Irwin made 2 saves in the match to help the home side come away with the victory.

Shea Salinas (San Jose Earthquakes): 58 minutes vs Colorado Rapids. Salinas started at right midfield for San Jose in their 2-1 loss fellow Fusion alum Clint Irwin and the Rapids Saturday night. Salinas was subbed off in the 58th minute but was able achieve a 86% pass accuracy and had 2 key passes before being subbed off.

Luis Argudo (Columbus Crew): 71 minutes vs FC Cincinnati. Argudo started at right midfield in Columbus’ 2-2 draw in the first “Hell is Real” matchup against instate rivals the FC Cincinnati.  Argudo had 84% pass accuracy and had 5 recoveries in the match.

Gianluca Busio (Sporting KC): 1 minute vs Real Salt Lake. Busio came on as a sub in the 90th minute for Sporting in their 2-1 loss to their rivals on Saturday night. In his very short cameo on the pitch, Busio was 2-2 in passes and created a good scoring opportunity.

Sean Davis (New York Red Bulls): 90 minutes vs Los Angeles FC. Davis played the entire match in New York’s 4-2 loss at LAFC on Sunday night. Despite the loss, Davis had the most tackles in the match with 5, was the most fouled player in the match at 4 times and won the most duals in the match with 13.

Jalil Anibaba (New England Revolution): 90 minutes vs Seattle Sounders. Anibaba played the entire match at center back in New England’s 3-3 draw in Seattle Saturday night. Anibaba won all 3 of his aerial duals and had 5 recoveries against the team he played for in 2014.

Warren Creavalle (Philadelphia Union): 54 minutes vs Houston Dynamo. Creavalle started at defensive midfield for Philly in their 2-1 win at home vs the Dynamo. Creavalle created 1 chance and had 7 recoveries in the match.

Sebastian Ibeagha (New York City FC): 1 minutes vs Houston Dynamo. Ibeagha came on as a center back substitute in the 90th minute to help preserve New York City’s 3-2 win vs Houston. He was a lock down defender and completed 100% of his passes (2 for 2) in his limited time of play

Brandt Bronico (Chicago Fire): 90 minutes vs Montreal Impact. Bronico played the entire match in Chicago’s 3-2 win at home. Bronico was the most accurate passer in the game by completing 97% of his passes. He also had 2 shots vs the club from Quebec.

USL Championship

Sam Fink (Saint Louis FC): 90 minutes vs Memphis 901 FC, 90 minutes vs Charleston Battery. Fink started at center back as Saint Louis drew 0-0 at home vs Memphis on Tuesday night. Fink was a big part in helping Saint Louis earn a clean sheet. Fink had an 84% pass accuracy and was a threat in the air by winning 7 aerials duals while only losing 1. Fink also played the entire match vs Charleston Battery in a 1-1 draw. Fink scored a penalty to tie the game in the 68th minute. He was the man of the match and had the most completed passes in the match with 76.

Brian Anunga (Charleston Battery): 90 minutes vs Saint Louis FC. Anunga played the entire match for the Battery on Saturday night in their 1-1 draw vs STLFC. He had the most tackles in the game with 6 and had 11 recoveries but also committed the foul that led to Fusion alum Sam Fink’s goal in the 68th minute.

Jon Bakero (Phoenix Rising FC): 90 minutes vs El Paso Locomotive. Bakero went the distance for Phoenix in their 2-1 win on Saturday night. Bakero created the most chances in the game with 3 and had a 84% pass accuracy. This was Rising FC’s 13th consecutive win as they continue to be the hottest professional team in the US.

Michael Lahoud (San Antonio FC): 90 minutes vs Reno 1869 FC. Lahoud played the entire match at center midfield for San Antonio in their 4-1 away win Saturday night. Lahoud had a 92% pass accuracy and had 2 successful tackles in the match.

Shane Malcolm (Colorado Springs Switchbacks FC): 90 minutes vs Portland Timbers II, 90 minutes vs Colorado Springs Switchbacks FC. Started and played the entire game at right midfield in the Switchbacks 2-2 draw at home. Malcom had a 84% pass accuracy and created 1 chance in the match. Malcom also played the full 90 in the Switchbacks 3-3 draw at home vs RGVFC on Saturday night. Malcom scored in the 12th minute to give Colorado Springs an early 1-0 lead. He also created the most chances in the game with 4.
