NC Fusion in the Pros: Weekly Recap August 19th
This week saw 16 former NC Fusion players across MLS and USL Championship in action for their clubs. Most notably were the three matchups where former NC Fusion players went head to head and a former Fusion player made a great save on a penalty in MLS. Here’s how some of our former academy and U-23 players playing professionally fared this week.
Clint Irwin (Colorado Rapids): 90 minutes vs Minnesota United, 90 minutes vs Houston Dynamo. Irwin played in goal in Colorado’s 1-0 loss to MNUFC. It may have been a 1-0 loss, but Irwin made a few fantastic saves, 8 in total, including a pk save (watch here, 1:00 mark) against the always dangerous Darwin Quintero. Despite the loss, Irwin did his part keeping the Rapids in the game, unfortunately, his team just couldn’t find the back of the net. Irwin also played in Colorado’s 2-2 draw with Houston on Saturday night. Irwin made 6 saves, had 1 punch clearance in the match.
Shea Salinas (San Jose Earthquakes): 14 minutes vs Sporting Kansas City. Salinas came on as a second half sub in San Jose’s 2-1 loss vs Fusion alum Gianluca Busio and SKC. In his short time, Salinas had a 100% pass accuracy by going 7 for 7 in passes and had one successful dribble in the match.
