NC Fusion in the Pros: Weekly Recap September 16th
This week saw 14 former NC Fusion players play for their national teams and across MLS and USL Championship play. Most notably were games where an NC Fusion alum got a to represent the US national team and another got an assist in a huge win in his team’s push for the playoffs.
Daniel Lovitz (USA): 20 minutes vs Uruguay. Lovitz came on as a 2nd half substitute in the USMNT’s 1-1 draw vs 5th ranked Uruguay on Wednesday night. This was the Elon alum’s 10th game for the red, white, and blue.
Shame Malcolm (Guam): 90 minutes vs the Maldives, 90 minutes vs the Philippines. Malcolm played the entire match for Guam in their 1-0 loss vs the Maldives in FIFA World Cup Qualifying. Later in the week, Malcolm also played the full 90 in Guam’s 4-1 loss to the Philippines. Malcolm got a yellow card in the 45th minute. During next month’s international break, Malcolm and Guam will face China and Syria.
Luis Argudo (Columbus Crew): 27 minutes vs Atlanta United. Argudo came off the bench in the second half to help secure a 3-1 win vs Atlanta. Argudo had 1 clearance and 2 recoveries in the match.
Sebastian Ibeagha (New York City FC): 90 minutes vs Toronto FC, 6 minutes vs San Jose. Ibeagha played the entire match in NYCFC’s 1-1 draw against Toronto on Wednesday night. He had 4 clearances and an 85% pass accuracy and was solid at center back all night but did commit a foul that led to a Toronto pk. Fortunately, New York City’s goalkeeper, Sean Johnson, saved the penalty. Ibeagha also came on as a second half sub in NYC’s 2-1 win vs San Jose. In his short time on the field, Ibeagha had one tackle and one recovery, helping NYC to secure the win at home.
Gianluca Busio (Sporting KC): 24 minutes vs LA Galaxy. Busio came off the bench in Sporting KC’s 7-2 loss in LA on Sunday night. Despite coming off the bench, Busio created the most chances in the match with 3 and had an assist [3:34 mark] in the 86th minute.
Sean Davis (New York Red Bulls): 90 minutes vs Seattle Sounders. Davis played the entire match at defensive midfield in New York’s 4-2 loss in Seattle on Sunday night. Davis created 1 chance and had 2 interceptions but also scored an own goal in the match
Daniel Lovitz (Montreal Impact): 90 minutes vs FC Cincinnati. After returning for national team duty, Lovitz started and played the entire game at right back in Montreal’s 1-0 loss to Cincy. Lovitz had 1 shot, created 1 chance, and won 3 aerial duals in the match.
Shea Salinas (San Jose Earthquakes): 45 minutes vs New York City FC. Salinas came off the bench and played the entire second half in San Jose’s 2-1 loss at New York City. Salinas had a 87% pass accuracy had 4 recoveries in the match.
Brandt Bronico (Chicago Fire): 90 minutes vs FC Dallas. Bronico played the entire match at defensive midfield for Chicago in their 4-0 over Dallas. Bronico created 3 chances, had an 87% pass accuracy, and had an assist [1:08 mark] in the game. This was Bronico’s second assist of the season for the Fire.
Clint Irwin (Colorado Rapids): 90 minutes vs LA Galaxy, 90 minutes vs Toronto FC. Irwin played the entire match on Wednesday night in Colorado’s 2-1 win vs the Galaxy. Irwin was a pivotal piece in the Rapid’s victory, making 6 saves in the match. Irwin also played the entire match in Colorado’s 3-2 loss vs Toronto FC on Sunday night. Irwin made 4 saves in the loss.
Sam Fink (Saint Louis FC): 90 minutes vs Birmingham Legion. Fink started at center back in St. Louis’ 2-0 win vs the Legion on Friday night. The STLFC captain was pivotal in securing the clean sheet and the win. Fink had 4 clearances and was 3 for 3 in tackles. Fink was also named the lower division player of the tournament for this years US Open Cup. He helped St. Louis make it to the quarterfinals, losing to eventual champions Atlanta United.
Brian Anunga (Charleston Battery): 90 minutes vs Pittsburgh Riverhounds. Anunga played the entire match at defensive midfield in Charleston’s 1-0 in Pittsburgh on Saturday night. Anunga created 1 chance, 2 tackles and 2 interceptions in the match.
Alex Martinez (Charlotte Independence): 90 minutes vs New York Red Bulls ll in Charlotte’s 2-0 loss on Friday night. Martinez had an 81% pass accuracy and created 3 chances in the match.
Jordan McCrary (Sacramento Republic FC): 90 minutes vs Rio Grande Valley. McCrary played the entire match at right back in Sacramento’s 2-1 win on Sunday night. He had an 88% pass accuracy, was fouled 3 times, and had 3 interceptions in the match.
