How do I register for tryouts if I’m new to NC Fusion?
Click the New Registration button at the top of the page. Create a player account and upload a birth certificate for your child. Once the account is created, your child’s birthdate will automatically provide the registration options for your player. Follow the steps to complete. Payment must be processed for registration to be finalized.
I’m not sure what level my child should play. How should I proceed?
If you are uncertain about in which division your child should tryout, for starters it’s a good idea to talk with his or her current coach. NC Fusion also holds an Open House prior to tryouts when you can find out details about each level. You also may want to take your son or daughter to watch an age-level NC Fusion game in each one of the divisions offered and compare it with the level of play your child has been currently exposed to.
How are tryouts scheduled?
NC Fusion is prohibited from scheduling certain age groups for tryouts until after NC Youth Soccer (NCYSA) finishes its state cup tournaments, which is usually mid-May. NC Fusion also faces the prospect of summer vacations starting in mid-June. This leaves a very small window to hold tryouts for all three divisions that are convenient for the most number of people.
My child will not be available for the one or both of the sessions. What options do we have?
It is in your child’s best interest to attend both of his or her assigned sessions. Doing so reinforces your family’s commitment to this program in the eyes of your child. It also ensures that your child is fairly evaluated while trying out with players of comparable age and ability. If there is an unavoidable conflict, parents must send an e-mail BEFORE tryouts to firstname.lastname@example.org giving the player’s name, date of birth and reason for conflict. Your child may be asked to attend another session as determined by the directors of coaching.
How can I help prepare my child for this experience?
For many children, this may be the first experience they will have with being selected, or conversely, with not being selected. It’s important that you, as a parent, manage their expectations.
How are players selected for teams?
The players performance over the course of the previous year combined with their efforts during tryouts are used to help select the most appropriate team/level for each player. Your son or daughter’s previous coach, tryout evaluators and full time DOC’s all have input into decisions on where your child is best suited.
Can I watch during tryouts?
Parents may observe tryouts from designated areas, however, NC Fusion does not permit parents to talk specifically to, or coach their child, during the session.
Why do you need a photograph and birth certificate?
All youth soccer sanctioning bodies (USSDA, ECNL and NCYSA) require proof of age to register players for participation. Tryout registration is not completed until the birth certificate and registration fee has been submitted. All players, returning and new, will need to upload a copy of their birth certificate when registering for tryouts in the new Blue Sombrero system. Every player will be required to upload a recent color photo when accepting a spot on a team. The acceptance process is not complete until the photo and 1st payment have been submitted.
Why was I asked the country of birth in the online registration?
The United States Soccer Federation (USSF) requires that we ask the question. This pertains to the location of birth and not citizenship. U13 – U18 players born outside of the US may be asked to complete a form required by USSF. This form basically states that players born outside of the US were not paid players in another country. While this does not usually apply to any of our players, it is a requirement which NC Fusion follows.
A friend does not have Internet access. How can she register her child?
Parents may make an appointment with a staff member to go to the NC Fusion office at the BB&T Soccer Park or Bryan Park to register their child.
What if my son/daughter gets injured during the course of the season/year?
Generally, no refunds of payments will be made once a player has been accepted into a program. Additionally, each family must pay all fees for the year regardless of circumstances that may arise limiting a player’s activity.
Any request for a special waiver of this policy based on extraordinary circumstances (for example, season-ending injury) must be made in writing to the NC Fusion Finance Director. The decision of the Finance Director is final.
